Three Steps Against Cancer

Cancer is one of the most terrifying illnesses for our patients to hear coming from their doctor. There are so many different paths that cancer can take, and patients instinctively know that it will affect everyone they are close to. We don’t yet know how to prevent cancer, but we are getting better at beating it. We are getting better at learning what causes it. You might not think that the dental office has much to do with cancer, but we absolutely do. We’ve put together a list of a few things we do to fight cancer every single day.

Safer X-rays – There’s no doubt that exposure to radiation can cause cancer. Our use of x-rays in the medical world is pretty extensive. We now use digital x-rays here in the office to significantly reduce your exposure to radiation when you get your annual x-rays.

Screening for Cancer – Not only do we work to prevent cancer, but we also keep an eye out for signs of cancer. Oral cancer attacks about 35,000 people each year, 8,000 of whom will lose their lives. At each appointment, we are looking for signs. Let us know if you have a spot that worries you, and we’ll take a look! Early detection could mean life or death.

Helping You Through Chemo – Should you hear those chilling words, “You have cancer,” there are going to be a lot of changes. Chemotherapy is pretty standard treatment, but it wreaks havoc on your oral health. Come see us in the weeks before your treatment begins, and let us discuss some things with you so you know what to expect and how to care for yourself.

Cancer is something that causes entire communities to stand up as one, united front. We are all affected in one way or another, and we all want to see it come to an end. Contact us today to set up your next appointment. We can’t wait to see you!
